The Paint Spot

This isn’t your regular art supply store! The Paint Spot offers art enthusiasts a chance to partake in fine art workshops and check out a wide display of artwork from the local visual arts community. Located in East Old Strathcona, the Paint Spot has become the go-to location where artists can showcase their creativity in three separate on-site galleries.

If you’re a fan of special exhibitions, then don’t miss out on visiting the Naess Gallery! This space was named after the founder, Sidsel Naess Bradley, and displays a wide range of artwork and exhibits year-round. The Paint Spot also features several themed competitions each year in their Vertical Space gallery, and a number of fine handcrafted objects and artistic sculptures in the Artisan Nook gallery. So if you love seeing what’s new in the local art scene, make sure to stop by the Paint Spot on Mondays through Saturdays from 9:30 am – 6:00 pm and Sundays from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

Bearclaw Gallery

One thing’s for certain – Edmontonians are proud of their heritage, which is why you can find a wide range of Native art throughout the YEG. The Bearclaw Gallery, in particular, is renowned for being one of the best spots in Edmonton to enjoy some impressive pieces. It’s one of the first galleries of its kind with a stunning selection of First Nations, Inuit, and Metis art, including soapstone carvings, fine art paintings, silkscreen prints, sculptures and unique hand-carved silver jewellery. You can also find smaller crafts, beaded jewellery, and specialty gifts that you won’t find anywhere else in the city.

It’s strategically located right in the heart of the Gallery Walk District, so you can pop in during your summer stroll to see their rotating exhibits by a number of renowned artists like Maxine Noel, Alex Janvier, Linus Woods, Jane Ash Poitras, and many more. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5:30 pm, so make it a plan!

Seen as the creative focal point of Edmonton’s downtown, this distinguished landmark offers studio workshops, exciting exhibitions from across the globe, sensory stimulation experiences, and over 6,000 art pieces featuring Canadian abstract art and sculpture. It’s a true mecca for visual art lovers where you can see what’s new in the world of art.

You can also join enjoy art alongside some cocktails at the art parties that are frequently hosted here which are themed around current AGA exhibits. There’s also a weekly film night showcasing a new movie each week, and ArtBreak classes to enhance your artistic literacy. Whatever you do, don’t forget to stop by the Zinc Restaurant to sample some delicious local Albertan cuisine. And you can swing by the gift shop to pick up some unique and crafty items on your way out.

Harcourt House Artist Run Centre

This artist-run centre features a number of five-week exhibitions that showcase local and national artists, organizations and collections to the public. Open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, you can stop by the 3rd floor to check out four different rooms of thought-provoking, contemporary art pieces.
